About Disciples

“We are Disciples of Christ, a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world. As part of the one body of Christ we welcome all to the Lord’s Table as God has welcomed us.”

Welcome to Capitol Hill Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)!

Come worship, study, share and serve with us!

Capitol Hill Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) is a congregation with a mission of

“Spreading God’s Love…

                                          with you!”

Worship begins at 10:00 a.m. each Sunday following a Hospitality Time of treats and beverages at 9:40 a.m.  All children are welcome and valued in Worship. A Child Care Attendant offers a safe and loving environment for infants through 4 years old during Worship, if desired. Sunday School is offered for children ages 5 and up following children's time during worship.

Weekly Worship includes scripture, prayer, music, proclamation, and Communion. The service includes both lay and clergy leadership in being and sharing the good news of Jesus Christ. Through the week, there are opportunities for Sewing and Quilting Fellowship, Disciples Women, Mission Work, and Christian Education Classes. We sponsor Trunk or Treat each October for the entire neighborhood.

We are committed to mission locally and beyond. The third Sunday of each month we collect money and food for the DMARC Food Pantry. We support the ministry of our Regional campground at the Christian Conference Center, Newton, Iowa, with our offerings and our labor. We share in the annual Hunger Hike each October. We also send mission teams to Rippling Hope Ministries in Detroit, Michigan annually and to Southwest Good Samaritan Ministries, Los Fresnos, Texas, every three years.

Five additional congregations nest in our building: Morning Star Baptist Church, Mount Zion International Ministries, Behind the Veil Church and Efecios 2:20 De El Salvador, and Apostolic Faith Tabernacle. Each one utilizes the building to the glory of God, carrying out its mission in the name of Jesus Christ. We have been blessed in these rich and culturally-diverse relationships. We meet for Conversation and Prayer with Morning Star Baptist Church on every third Wednesday. We invite everyone to be a part of the conversation.

Various neighborhood groups also meet in our building each month. These include: Mothers of Multiples, Narcotics Anonymous, Women of Resilience (AA), and Fairmont Park Neighborhood Association.

We invite you to visit us where we can meet you personally and extend hospitality. You may email our Media and Communications Specialist, Rebecca, at My email address is The church's phone number is 515-266-6283. We would be happy to talk and walk with you on your journey as a Christian.
